The Vineyards and Their Terroir

The vineyards, 100% Verdicchio, were planted in 2002, halfway between Montecarotto and Serra de’ Conti. They are located in one of the most sought out areas for the production of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. The altitude and the exposure to the winds on three fronts guarantee the best conditions for organic farming, giving the outmost respect to the environment. The vineyards are 2 contiguous lots, very different from one another, therefore vinified separately in order to maintain the terroir’s expression at its best.

The Vineyard

Organic and Sustainable Farming

“Organic” on its own can mean a lot, but the truth is that it means nothing unless it is accompanied by the concepts of sustainability and respect for the environment. We try to act upon the vineyards and the surroundings as little as possible. We even use the absolute minimum amounts of those products that are allowed in organic farming, like copper and sulfur. We go through our vineyards as little as possible: we mow once (or twice in the rainiest years) a year leaving the grounds grassy and we allow our bordering forest to follow its nature and host the local wildlife. All the gears and tools used for the ligatures are biodegradable while disposable plastic is banned from our premises so that it is really Terralibera (FreeLand)

“I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want.”

Andy Warhol

Wine Making

The harvest is managed by climate but on average it is done mid-to-end of September. It is made manually and the wine is made separately for the two vineyards. The grapes are brought directly to the winery and are gently pressed to extract only the free-run must. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts chosen for each vineyard and later the refinement is made in steel without the help of any sulfites until bottling.
